When Wanda Sykes came out in public, it was for a purpose. She joined the rally to support same-sex marriage and also gave due credit to her identity. Wanda had been private about her romantic preferences since childhood, and it was only when she got older that she dared to come out. Likewise, she didn’t receive much support from her parents when she came out to them. In 2006, Wanda met Alex Niedbalski.

Wanda first saw Alex at a ferry ride to New York and was immediately attracted to her. Later, Alex was introduced to her by a friend since she was looking for materials for a kitchen renovation. Wanda then realized that Alex was the woman she had a little crush on. Since then, the two were inseperable — they eloped in 2008. Since the couple wanted to complete their family, they welcomed fraternal twins, Olivia and Lucas, in 2009.
