Ana Matronic

Talk about having a nonconventional family, Ana Matronic of the band Scissor Sisters is a witness to such. At a very young age, she went through tough times dealing with her parent’s separation and her father’s gender orientation. Ana’s father fled home and began a relationship with a man when she was just three. Although she credits her mother’s honesty about their family situation, she covered the truth about her father for a long time, which was the cause of his demise.

Ana had a close relationship with her father despite that he lived a different life away from them. As such, Ana was devastated when her father died from AIDS when she was 15. However, due to rampant discrimination against people with the illness, Ana felt the need to keep her father’s story to herself. As times change, Ana found the courage to tell her story to honor her father, hoping it would be be an inspiration to others as well.
