Maria had Jackson from her relationship with Dan McDermott. Upon her separation from Dan, Maria started a relationship with a close friend, Clare Munn, who is also acting as a godmother to Jackson. Fearing that her preferences might have a negative impact on Jackson, she tried to hide it. Jackson was a bright kid and knew that his mom was up to something. As she explained her situation with Jackson, his response comforted Maria. He told his mom, “love is love, whatever you are.” Since then, Maria felt at ease knowing that her son embraces who she is, including her relationship with her now-fiancé, Dominique Crenn.
